Media Production Center Time Capsule Eligibility & Guidelines

When a group of Columbia students, faculty, and alumni gather in the Media Production Center in 2040 and crack open our time capsule, what will they find? What do you want them to know about Columbia College Chicago back in the day? What should we include in the capsule to represent our community as it is today?

If you are a student, alum, faculty or staff member of Columbia College Chicago, we want your suggestions! We’ll open the best of them up for online voting on November 2.*

Think about:

What sums up your Columbia experience?
A South Loop Club menu? Your U-Pass?

What offers a snapshot of Columbia culture and spirit?
A Manifest T-shirt? The Columbia Chronicle?

What illustrates our cultural life today?
Obama’s Grant Park speech? Tweets?

Objects
Upload a picture. Tell us (briefly!) why it should be included. (We’ll contact you later for the actual object if it’s chosen.)

Media
Upload your audio or video clip (a minute and a half or less). We’ll contact you later with media specs if your submission is chosen.

Narratives
Have a good anecdote? Memory? Prediction? Write it down, in 500 words or less.

A few guidelines:
3D items should be no larger than a brick (approximately 3” x 4” x 6”)
2D items should be no bigger than 11” x 17”
Items can’t leak, spoil, or damage other material in the capsule.
Think about why you chose your item and tell us why!
Columbia College Chicago students, alumni, faculty, and staff may submit suggestions.

Submit! October 1 - November 20, 2009 at www.columbiasmoment.org/timecapsule_submit

Questions? Email Heidi Marshall.

* Submissions and suggestions from alumni, students, faculty, and staff will be considered. The time capsule committee will do an initial screening of submissions, and their favorites will be posted online for voting. It’s not a contest, and there are no prizes. It’s all for fun.
