Environmentally Sensitive Media Production
Film production consumes huge amounts of energy through the creation, transportation and distribution of materials. Specific environmental impacts can include modification and potential damage to natural landscapes and infrastructure, artificial light and noise production, material waste, transportation costs, and high electricity consumption. Many film companies are now integrating sustainable practices into their production methods, enlisging both direct and indirect solutions. Green features will allow students to refine their talents with an eye toward conservation and greater environmental sensitivity and responsibility.
Multiple Benefits of Green Roof Technology
A partial green roof, or rooftop planted with vegetation over 50 percent of the surface, will reduce energy consumption and the urban heat island effect. The design of the MPC reduces construction costs by combining green roof and acoustical roof technology in addition to providing a green solution to air handling that delivers cool air low within the building.
LEED® Certification
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating Systemâ„¢ is an internationally recognized certification system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council. The LEED system classifies and evaluates green building construction, function, and maintenance. Columbia College is a member of the USGBC, and the MPC is targeting LEED Silver certification for its innovative use of mechanical systems, sustainable materials, and partial green roof area.
